Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program

Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (Home Energy Plus)

The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) administers the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Public Benefits Energy Assistance Program. LIHEAP and its related services help over 100,000 Wisconsin households annually. In addition to regular heating and electric assistance, specialized services include:
• Emergency fuel assistance
• Counseling for energy conservation and energy budgets
• Pro-active co payment plans
• Targeted outreach services
• Emergency furnace repair and replacement

The Home Energy Plus
includes the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) and Weatherization Services. WHEAP provides assistance for heating costs, electric costs, and energy crisis situations. Weatherization Services help renters and homeowners reduce their energy consumption.

WHEAP assistance is a one-time payment during the heating season (October 1 through May 15). The funding pays a portion of the energy costs, but the payment is not intended to cover the entire energy costs of a residence. The amount of the energy assistance payment varies depending on a variety of factors, including the household’s size, income, and energy costs. In most cases the energy assistance benefit is paid directly to the household energy supplier.

Weatherization services help homeowners and renter reduce energy consumption while increasing comfort in their homes. If your residence qualifies for weatherization services, you may receive one or more of the following energy efficiency services:  insulation, sealing air leaks, heating system updates, or energy saving products.
