Jackson County Land Conservation
The Land Conservation Department (LCD) is a county department that implements and administers County and State of Wisconsin Soil and Water Conservation Programs.
The LCD provides information and assistance to the public in the development of soil and water conservation plans. Technical assistance to help landowners prevent and control soil erosion and manure runoff is provided by the Department. There are many Best Management Practices (BMPs) that the LCD recommends and designs to help conserve our soil and water resources.
The LCD administers many programs that include: Farmland Preservation, Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims, and the Land and Water Resource Management Program. The LCD also regulates the following ordinances listed below. The LCD office is located in the basement of the County Courthouse.
CHAPTER 22, ANIMAL WASTE AND MANURE MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE
Any manure storage structure that is going to be constructed or modified needs to be reviewed by the LCD prior to installation. In many cases a manure storage permit will need to be issued.
CHAPTER 23, LIVESTOCK AND ANIMAL FACILITY LICENSING ORDINANCE
The ordinance details the procedures for obtaining a license for the siting of new and expanded livestock and/or animal facilities in Jackson County. Compliance with the four manure management standards are the basis for the ordinance.
CHAPTER 24, NON-METALLIC MINING RECLAMATION ORDINANCE
If you own or operate a sand pit, shale pit, rock quarry or excavate any type of soil and move it off your property, you may need a permit.
