driveway access (existing or new), culvert replacement or altering access off of a County Highway
Any access or changes to existing access to a
County Highway can be obtained by only filling out an application at the link below. The application can only be applied for by the landowner of the site on which the access/work is being requested.
Note: The Highway Department can only issue a permit for access to a county highway, not a State highway or local Town road. County highways are the lettered highways (i.e. C, H, K); Sate highways are numbered, (i.e. 95, 121, 54); and local Town roads are the named roads, (i.e. Charcoal Rd, Castle Mound Rd, etc.) You may contact the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for State roads and your local Town officials for the named Town roads.
Please make sure to complete the first page completely and read and initial page two,
Driveway Permit Requirements. The third page provides additional details and does not needed to be returned with your application. The first two pages must be submitted along with any drawings, maps, etc. that can clarify your application. You may either email the application to:
JCHighway@jacksoncountywi.gov, fax: 715-284-0261 or you may drop it off in person at the Highway Administrative Office, 119 Harrison Street in Black River Falls.
Once received, the Highway Department will complete a field review of the site and will contact you with any questions or concerns.
Note: All Culverts require end walls. The Highway Department is unable to sell culverts or materials to private parties. You may purchase a culvert at Farrell Supply, Farm & Fleet, Tractor Supply, Theisen's or other retailers. You may also want to contact your Town to see if you can purchase one as well.
There is no fee for the application, however the applicant must have an approved permit before any work is to be completed.
