The Children and Families Unit’s primary responsibility is providing Jackson County’s Child Welfare programs. Programs run by the unit include: Child Protective Services (Chapter 48), Juvenile Justice (Chapter 938), Voluntary Child Welfare, Foster Care, and Voluntary Kinship Care.
The Child Protective Services (CPS) Unit protects children who have been abused or neglected, or are at substantial risk of being abused or neglected. It is our role to assure that a child's basic needs are met and to assure that they are free from physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. The Youth Justice Unit is composed of social workers who are assigned to cases involving juveniles in the county who are alleged to have committed a crime. We also work with juveniles who are habitually truant from school and juveniles who are uncontrollable in their homes. For more information, click on the Youth Justice link!
