Communicable Disease
Jackson County Public Health is required under state laws to provide surveillance, investigation, control and prevention of communicable diseases within the borders of the county. The health officer appointed by the county board of supervisors has the responsibility to enforce this requirement.
Health care providers are required to report to the health officer the presence of a reportable communicable disease in any resident of the county. The health officer then is empowered to take any and all actions needed to prevent the further spread of a communicable disease and protect the public health.
Jackson county Public Health performs these vital communicable disease services:
Investigation and follow-up on all reportable communicable disease
Confidential HIV/AIDS partner notification
Sexually transmitted disease confidential follow-up and counseling
Investigation of food borne/waterborne illnesses, consultation and follow-up
Tuberculosis screening, counseling and follow-up; distribution and monitoring of state provided medication
Information, referral and education on all other contagious disease
