Kinship
The Kinship program provides assistance to family members
who are caring for children of relatives.
There are eligibility and program requirements that must be met.

Juvenile Delinquency/JIPS Referrals
Juvenile intake workers have the lead
responsibility to screen police referrals, conduct intake inquires, and
authorize custody of juveniles not released by law enforcement. They also provide recommendations to the
District Attorney’s Office, Corporation Counsel or City Attorney regarding each
case. Delinquency referrals include
youth age 10 through 16 years old who have violated criminal codes, state or
federal. JIPS (Juveniles in Need of
Protective Services) cases are juveniles under the age of 18 and are truant
from home or school, uncontrolled at home or children under the age of 10 that
have committed delinquent acts. Social
Workers continue with cases focusing on protecting the community, impose
accountability for the juveniles, provide rehabilitation services and comply with
the victim’s rights.

Independent Living Services
Independent living services are designed to help youth 15 to
21 years of age gain the skills necessary for successful transition from
out-of-home care to living independently in the community.

Foster Care
The agency is responsible to recruit, screen, train, license
and supervise foster families to care for children age 0-18. There is a Partners in Alternate Care
Education (PACE) curriculum that is available for foster parents.

Child Protective Services
The DHHS is the lead agency to accept reports of suspected
child abuse or neglect, screen the reports and investigate the allegations or
refer to other community services. The
agency works in conjunction with law enforcement on most investigations. Agency workers are also sometimes assisted
with investigations of Ho-Chunk children and families by The Indian Child
Welfare (ICW) staff. Social workers
continue with cases through all phases of the investigation and court process
including dispositional services with families that may continue on an ongoing
basis.
