This department consists of one full time person who performs a combination of functions,  Land Information Coordinator and County Surveyor.  Some of the services currently (or soon to be) available from this office are:

  • Survey records- dating back to 1845 (possibly the most complete records in Western Wisconsin)
  • Digital and hard copy aerial photography (several flight years available)
  • Digital and hard copy US Geological Survey topographic maps ( 7.5 minute )
  • US Geological Survey and National Geodetic Survey benchmark data
  • High Accuracy Reference Network ( HARN ) station information ( GPS Values )
  • FEMA Floodplain maps covering Jackson County
  • We have dual frequency GPS receivers, which we use to establish geodetic control for projects, located within Jackson County.  There is usually a charge for this unless it is a cooperative project.

In addition to the above services, this office offers advice to landowners on ways to resolve surveying related land problems.  The County Surveyor does not do surveys for private individuals.  Should you need the services of a surveyor, the County Surveyor will help you with selecting a private surveyor who is familiar with surveying in Jackson County and would be qualified to perform your survey.

Our office coordinates efforts and provides technical assistance to all County Departments concerning Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  The Jackson County Forestry Department is in the process of building an elaborate GIS for the 125,000-acre County Forest.  The Sheriff's Department, E911 and Emergency Government use extensive GIS information to perform their duties.

COOPERATIVE PROJECTS- Jackson County believes in the philosophy of the Wisconsin Land Information Program, "everyone gains when we all work together".  If you are developing any type of land information and feel that Jackson County could be a partner, please contact the Land Information Coordinator at the above number or address
.
