ADOPTION PROCEDURES

The Animal Shelter seeks permanent, responsible, and loving homes for the animals. The goal is to find each animal a "good" home that suits the animal's needs.

In order to achieve this goal, the prospective adopter must meet certain requirements. The prospective adopter must:

  • Apply & qualify to adopt an animal.
  • Understand laws regarding the adoption as well as ownership of the pet.
  • Have the animal spayed or neutered.
  • Properly house, feed, water, and care for the animal.
  • Exercise proper control and restraint over the pet at all times.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Dependable volunteers are always needed for various projects.
  • Report suspected cruelty cases to the Animal Shelter or, during closed hours, to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
  • Have your pet spayed or neutered or sponsor another pet to help the pet overpopulation problem.
  • Become a member of the Jackson County Humane Society and offer some of your time and support.

DONATIONS to the Animal Shelter are primarily used for facility utilities and maintenance, equipment, and supplies to support the care of animals at the shelter. The County's allocated budget also finances an Animal Control Officer.
