PROCEDURES

SURRENDERED DOGS AND CATS

  • Owners must read and sign Surrender Form giving as much information about the animal as possible (name, age, shots, what vet, etc.). Owner must also sign a Surrender Form.
  • We need to verify that while in owner's custody the animal has not bitten anyone during the previous 14 days.
  • Then we will give that animal a booster shot if it is needed and ask for a donation.

STRAYS

  • Complete a yellow stray card.
  • Scan animal for ID chip.
  • Give booster shots and look animal over for basic health.
  • Check our lost animal lists and also look in the local newspapers.
  • According to WI State Statutes 174.046 Animal must be kept for seven days for owner to redeem before it is available for adoption or euthanized.

OWNERS REDEEMING DOGS

  • Owners must have proof of a rabies shot within the last 3 years and a current license before a dog can be released.
  • If they have no proof of a rabies shot, they must go to a vet, pay for a rabies shot, and show the receipt before releasing the dog. We may sell a license to them with this receipt. Owners must also pay a $20.00 impoundment fee and a $5.00 a day boarding fee.
